As part of a joint program with the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Priority Placement Program for International Students, we visited the RIKEN Center for Brain Science (RIKEN CBS) in Wako, Saitama, and participated in an internship program.
The training was conducted in English and included visits to research laboratories and discussions with postdoctoral researchers, providing us with firsthand experience of an international research environment and exposure to cutting-edge research trends.

We’re setting off with 11 students in total, including some from the Priority Placement Program and SPRING support.
Good luck on your training!

The internship at RIKEN CBS was a great opportunity.(Ryoga)
When we arrived at RIKEN CBS, the first place we visited was the Brain Box. It’s an exhibition room that gives an overview of brain science, from basic to some of the cutting-edge research being done at RIKEN. What impressed me the most was a life-size model of a brain that was created by 3D-scanning a living researcher’s brain. I was able to touch it with my hands and feel the folds of the brain. It had a very unique texture.(Nagi)

It was a fun and meaningful internship!(Rina)

A wide range of cutting-edge research results…!(Rina)
Discussions with researchers working on cutting-edge neuroscience research excited me.(Ryoga)
On the first evening, there was a dinner where we had the chance to talk with postdocs at RIKEN in a relaxed setting. I’ve seen a postdoc position at RIKEN as an attractive possibility for my future career, so it was a valuable and inspiring experience to hear in depth about their daily research life, what motivates them, and their thoughts on career paths. (Nagi)
